Katrien Van Zyl is a qualified Home Economist and has been baking specialty cakes for 16 years. She worked in the hospitality industry for many years after which she started baking full time. She has a home-based business situated close to Tygervalley, Cape Town. Her cakes have featured in the Rooi Rose, True Love Bride and Idees/ Ideas magazines and in “Die Burger” newspaper as well as in various overseas magazines.
She has a passion for all things cake-related and strives to share her passion and knowledge with the rest of the world whether by baking on order, blogging, creating tutorials or writings books.
Her love for chocolate led her to write the following books:"Katrien’s Cakes and Katrien se Koeke" as well as "Katrien's Mini Cakes and Katrien se Mini-Koeke." Katrien's Mini Cakes has won the GOURMAND award for best Pastry and Sweets book in South Africa in 2013. Her love for cake decorating can be seen in the books, "Katrien's Crafty Tray Bakes and Katrien se Kreatiewe Koeke" as well as "Sugar Brides and Grooms and Bruidspare in Suikerkuns." Furthermore she has shared her love for cake and desserts in the books "Katrien's Dessert Cakes and Katrien se nagereg koeke."
